Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Amadu Kassim Jah, affectionately known as ‘Baide’, is a beacon of hope for vulnerable children in Sierra Leone, as he continues to shower them with generous support, ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue education and a brighter future. Over the past six years, Baide’s philanthropic efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of countless children across the country.
Baide’s journey of giving began upon his return to Sierra Leone from the United States in 2017. Driven by a deep passion for helping others, particularly those in his hometown of Gbinti, Baide has dedicated himself to supporting vulnerable children, especially orphans, by providing financial assistance and essential educational materials to enable them to stay in school.
Expressing his commitment to giving back, Baide shared, “Since 2017, I’ve been giving back to my community in Gbinti. I’ve supported vulnerable children, mostly orphans, with cash and educational materials to continue their schooling.” His philanthropic endeavours have expanded over the years, with this year alone witnessing a remarkable contribution of over Le500 million in charity work, following last year’s equally substantial donation of over Le1 billion.
In preparation for the upcoming school year, Baide has already taken proactive steps by ordering 1,650 bags filled with books and other school supplies. These resources will be distributed among vulnerable children in his church, as well as to other children in need, totalling 1,000 bags.
Baide’s generosity comes at a crucial time when the government’s Free Quality Education program has led to a surge in student enrollment, placing strain on resources for both parents and the government to provide necessary school materials. Baide’s support has been instrumental in alleviating this burden for many families.
As the CEO of the JMan Group of Companies, Baide has also fostered a culture of corporate social responsibility, with philanthropic initiatives carried out under his company’s name. Beyond assisting children, Baide has also extended support to teachers in his hometown of Gbinti, ensuring they receive adequate compensation to remain in the classroom and continue teaching.
Reflecting on his philanthropic journey, Baide humbly stated, “I don’t usually talk about how much I give. I am guided by the spirit of giving back because it is important and makes a significant impact on so many lives.” His altruism extends beyond children, as he has also empowered young entrepreneurs by providing seed funding for business ventures, inspired by his faith and the perseverance of his late mother, who worked tirelessly to educate him and his siblings.
Baide’s unwavering dedication to uplifting his community serves as an inspiring testament to the power of generosity and compassion in transforming lives and instilling hope for a brighter future. MJB/17/5/2024
