The chairman, Kenema District Peace Committee, Alhaji Sheku Kamara, has informed the public that since its formation, members have made efforts in ensuring that peace continues to prevail in the district. Kamara called on all and sundry to do everything possible to continue to maintain total peace. He said the peace committee resulted from the efforts of the Inter-Religious Council to foster a good working relationship between former Mayor Joseph Samba Keifala and current Mayor Thomas Tagbeteh Baio and other political leaders.
He said, as a committee, they are still monitoring the sustainability of the peace process among the stakeholders, adding that it was against that backdrop a monthly stakeholders’ meeting was set aside in Kenema for all political appointees hailing from Kenema district to interact with each other on development in the district. Nancy Konima Gbemeh, a representative of the All Political Parties Association (APPA), said she was there to serve all the political parties, and that any good politician should start practicing peace at home before going into politics.
She said as an association they want to continue maintaining peace among people at all times as violence mostly occurred during political campaigns, and called on all to come onboard for the development of the community and the country as a whole. “Preach peace always where ever you find yourself,” she implored.
