Paramount Chief Korgbende Kaimachende III of Gbense chiefdom, who until recently was representing the Kono Council of Paramount Chiefs in Parliament, has narrowly lost his Parliamentary seat. The incumbent Paramount Chief lost to Paramount Chief Sheku Fasuluku of Sandor , after a fierce political battle across the district.
Chief Kaimanchende scored 40050 votes(four thousand and fifty), while P.C. Fasuluku obtained 4,167 (four thousand one hundred and sixty-seven) votes. Chief Kaimachende pulled more votes in Sao, Gbane and Fiama chiefdoms but Chief Fasuluku scored massively in Tankoro,Nimikoro, and Sandor.
The National Electoral Commission training officer Gassimu Sillah, expressed concern over the amount of void votes wasted during the process.
He said if this repeats itself, during the National Election, without sufficient sensitization it will not be good. He therefore called on political leaders and the general public to work with NEC in educating the public on how to vote.
