As the electoral circle moves into the second phase of the Biometric Voter Registration nationwide with people vying for various political representations, the Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Paul Sengeh has on Saturday 5th February 2012 at a meeting with the Executives of the Bo District branch of the main SLPP Opposition expressed his desire to run for the position of Mayor to succeed the outgoing Mayor Dr Wusu Sannoh at the 17th November 2012 elections
Speaking at the special forum held at the SLPP Regional Office at Fenton road Paul Sengeh first and foremost praised the good work done by the entire regional hierarchy before providing the sum of one point five million Leones (Le1.5million) as part of his contribution for the ongoing registration exercise which he stated required various resources to monitor to its successful conclusion noting that the actual electoral process starts with registration particularly when the Biometric Voter Registration is newly being introduced for the first time and therefore encouraged all to join forces to make the process a success as the party prepares to form the next Government under the New Direction of retired Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio.
Speaking further Paul Sengeh said that if given the opportunity he will fittingly take up the mantle from Dr Sannoh whom he added has remarkably done an excellent job.
Paul Sengeh in turn told the executives that he is no stranger to the politics of this country except that he could not have done otherwise as he has been in the employment of UNICEF after leaving the then Bo Pujehun Project upon serving as a school teacher at Saint Pauls Secondary School in Pujehun when himself and few others stood against the dictatorship politics of the APC under late FM Minah during which he relocated to Bo in 1983 and briefly taught at Christ the King College.
In his response the Bo District Secretary General Mohamed Ali who chaired the forum thanked Paul Sengeh and entourage for their contribution and further said that the money will be judiciously used for the purpose and also encouraged others to always contribute to the party as to once more take it back to state house where it can fittingly perform as the ruling APC has woefully failed to live up to the task of moving the country forward.
The Bo District Scribe in turn stated that it’s the right for any eligible voter to vote and to be voted for as Paul Sengeh has done and therefore noted that all should be done in the best practice in the sprit of the SLPP but hence forth warned against destructive competition as the goal of the SLPP is to form the next cabinet which he added can only be done in the name of unity.
Mohamed Ali disclosed that he equally needs the job but that the wishes of the party surpasses all and the mistake of the past should be avoided for the forward match of the party to State House.
For their part various members of the Executive present including Brima Sidie Sowa, Public Relations Officer Kanji Daramy, Women Leader Haja Betty Kondor Keikura Vandi all thanked Paul Sengeh for the token and called on others to continue to do the same as to enable them to help carry out the good work of the party.
Earlier the entourage of Paul Sengeh including Buakai Bendie Hindowa and Mr Sowa all praised the good work of the Bo District Executive and further stated the need for the Party to present their best candidates as was the case of the President to Julius Maada Bio.
They in turn reassured all of their fullest commitment for the march back to power now that the APC cannot perform.
It is expected that the real public forum will later be held for Paul to officially present his case to them.
