Magistrate Hannah Bonnie at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Monday 10th August 2020 granted Le20 million bail to Pastor Joseph Abu Marsh for allegedly wounding soldier, Elvis Daniel Morgan. Marsh faced two counts of wounding and assault contrary to Sections 20 and 2 of the Offences Against the Persons Act, after police alleged that on Wednesday 8th April 2020 at No. 1 Regent Road in Freetown he maliciously wounded Morgan. Witness and victim Elvis Daniel Morgan recognised the accused as his co-tenant, and recalled lying in his bedroom playing with his phone on Wednesday 20th April 2020 when he heard the accused insulting his mother.
Morgan said he exited his room and asked Marsh to stop insulting his mother, and “closed a gate on him”. “While we were arguing, he removed a spoon and hit me on my head, and blood started coming from my head,” he said.
Morgan said he felt bad, as he was not expecting the assault, adding no one was present at home at the time of the alleged incident. “Marsh further came to my room and hit me for the second time. He used my fan to further wrestle me to the floor and injured me right inside my bedroom.”
Defence counsel is S.T. Navo while Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray prosecuted the matter. Navo requested bail, but was objected by the prosecuting counsel. However, Magistrate Hannah Bonnie granted a bail of Le20 million plus one surety and adjourned the matter to 13th August 2020. SKS/11/08/2020
