Parliamentarians of the oversight committee on Energy and Power have expressed appreciation for the work done so far by the National Power Authority (NPA).
This was disclosed during a conducted tour of the Kingtom Power Station, Black Hall Road Power Station and Wellington, by members of the committee to get a first hand information on the operations of NPA.
Prior to the tour, General Manager of NPA, Dr Zubairu Kaloko gave a power point presentation to the committee on the state of his institution before he took over; constraints and challenges faced, and the impact he has created since taking over.
Chairman of the Committee, Ibrahim Sorie noted that one of the functions of the Committee is to oversee the NPA to ensure that funds provided to them by Parliament through the budget is fully utilized.
He said that, so far from what they noticed, they were impressed. The Chairman explained that, the report from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) about the Income Electrix contract would be closely examined.
Explaining further, he stressed that the NPA is doing well as government has given priority to the Energy Sector, adding that they are also impressed with the overall distribution.
Hon Mathew Sahr Nyuma pointed out that he was satisfied with the power point presentation made by the Dr Kaloko before they embark on the tour, explaining that the presentation was not politicized but was done in the interest of developing the Energy Sector.
The Committee had previously made a tour of the Bumbuna Hydro Plant and they would also tour the Bo, Kenema Power Services (BKPS).
