Members of Parliament yesterday unanimously endorsed the appointments of 12 ministers who were nominated by President Ernest Bai Koroma.
The 12 are Minkailu Mansaray-Employment & Social Security; John Nicol Saad-Works Housing and Infrastructure; Benjamin O Davies-Lands Country Planning and the Environment; Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay- Transport and Aviation; Alimamy P Koroma-Trade and Industry Haja Afsatu Kabbah, Energy and Power; Alpha Kanu-Presidential Affairs; Alhaji Abu Bakarr Jalloh, Mineral Resources; Dr Joseph Sam Sesay-Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security; Dr Soccoh Kabia-Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dauda Kamara-Local Government and Community Development Minister, and Dr Minkailu Bah Minister of Education Youth and Sport.
The chairman of the Appointments Committee, Hon. Edward Turay, proposed to the House that after they had scrutinized them in the Appointments Committee they were recommending to the house that they approve their nominations as ministers. The leader of the minority party in parliament, Momoh Pujeh, on behalf of the opposition, said they would give their support to the proposed ministers.
He described the appointments by the president as “square pegs in square holes”, pointing out that the proposed ministers were eminent Sierra Leoneans ready to serve the people of the country.
Hon. Pujeh noted that the ministers did declare their assets, and that they had more monies in their private accounts than what they would be getting all through their services as ministers. He implored them to work for the betterment of Sierra Leone
