Parliament has approved seven more presidential nominees to serve on the Boards of some state institutions. They include the Managing Director of Aureol Insurance Company, Solomon Samba who will also now serve as a Board member on the Sierra Leone Insurance Commission (SLICOM), Alhadi Manso Kamara as non-executive chairman of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA), Nicolas Alimamy Kamara as Board member of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA) and Abdul Hamid Kamasi as ex-officio member of the SLPA. Aiah Lebbi, who is the Director of Local Government and Community Development was approved to serve as Board member at the National Commission for Social Action, NACSA. Other appointees include Joseph Baimba and Lamin M. Hassan who serve as board members at SALWACO and SALHOC respectively.
Presenting the nominees to parliament yesterday, Acting Majority Leader, Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya, MP, said the Committee on Appointments and Public Services had interviewed the seven on Friday 1 August.
Seconding the motion, Eric Jumu of the SLPP urged the appointees to carry out what was expected of them. He told them of the worrying situation at SALPOST, where it was reported that Board members were only particular about their sitting allowances and not the general welfare of workers. Claude Kamanda of the APC reminded the new board members of the President’s agenda for change and told them of how desperate the people were for change, which he said was their responsibility to provide them with.
