TW 189 Abdul Lahai Ndomawah, a Traffic Warden for Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority (SLRTA) past Monday between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00pm committed suicide by plunging from the top of Orogu Bridge at Allen Town drowning himself.
Ndomawah, who was in his 30s was said to have overwhelming family problems.
He purposefully left his residence in Freetown fully dressed in his uniform, took his wife onboard his motorbike at that time of the night and sped to Orugu Bridge where he stopped the bike and told his wife he was going to kill himself.
Those who spoke to Abdul’s wife told this medium that his wife indeed struggled to prevent her husband from committing such an unholy act.
The late Traffic Warden was so determined to kill himself that his wife was unable to stop him from jumping from the high bridge into the Rokel River.
Close relatives and friends of the late Warden revealed to this medium that the act could not be unconnected with a sad event which took place at his home on that same Monday where his 5 years old son (a child he got from his former wife) got his hands burnt by his present wife, creating a serious alarm in the neighbourhood and state authorities.
He also said while Abdul was at work, news reached him that a truckload of Police Officers were heading for his house to make arrests in relation to the child’s cruelty case his wife had been accused of.
It was also alleged that the late Abdul himself had made pronouncements in the house that he did not have marital affection for his present wife but his parents were forcing him to marry her.
His close friend said Abdul was aware that such case of child cruelty committed by a woman he claimed he did not love would land him into spending profusely in court and therefore decided to kill himself.
Fayia Kamara who is the Public Relations Officer for Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority said they would not comment on the death of Abdul until senior authorities mandated him to divulge information to the public surrounding the death of their Officer.
Abdul’s death has however left tongues wagging. Some who do not know who the late Warden was have associated his death to Marine devil while others have attributed it to cowardice.
