The African continent has registered 1,074,486 cumulative cases of coronavirus representing 5.2 percent of global cumulative cases. Despite challenges faced by the continent to contain the spread of the virus, it has approximately 770,000 recoveries representing 6 percent of the global rates and more than 24,000 deaths or 3.2 percent. Globally there are 20,672,105 cumulative confirmed cases of which Africa has 1,074,486. The global figure for deaths remains 750,490, with the continent posting 24,276 with 769,999 recoveries, while the world’s is at 12,863,984 persons. However, Sierra Leone has registered 1,937 cumulative confirmed cases representing 0.21 percent of the continent’s total, which is less than Guinea’s with cumulative confirmed cases of 8,116 or 0.89 percent but higher than Liberia at 1,252 cumulative cases representing 0.14 percent.
The recovery rate in Sierra Leone is 1,483, compared to Guinea with 7,060 and Liberia 738. The country has recorded a total of 69 deaths, Guinea 50 and Liberia 82. According to the national COVID-19 updates for 13th August 2020, the country recorded three active new cases from Bombali District, two from Port Loko District, all in the north, after 305 samples were collected from all over the country except 34 Military Hospital and analysed in the last 24 hours.
The country has analysed a cumulative total of 21,448 samples so far in the 34 epic weeks with records indicating 74 percent of the cases nationwide are below the age of 45 with more males being infected, accounting for 54 percent. Meanwhile, nothing substantial has changed nationwide on the number of persons in quarantined homes.
