Out-going Nigerian Nat. Union President praises Yorubas

Outgoing President of the Nigeria National Union in Sierra Leone, architect Abel Onomake over the weekend praised the resilience of the Yoruba community in Sierra Leone and their love for peace. Speaking at a luncheon organized by the Nigerian National Union for the Yoruba community in the presence of the heads of the other ethnic unions at the Nigeria High Commissioner, Abel Onomake explained that about two years ago, there was a rift in the Yoruba union which he tried to mend but the warring parties refused to compromise. He also explained that it was during that meeting that he promised to treat them to lunch if their disagreements were resolved. The outgoing Nigeria National Union President said he was proud that now without the intervention of anyone, the Yorubas have come together again as one and wondered how they did it. The formula, he said could be used to resolve any other conflicts within the Nigerian community in Sierra Leone. He also recalled that they Yoruba union is the oldest Nigerian ethnic group in Sierra Leone whose great grand-parents came and settle here peacefully living among their hosts. Abel told the other unions to copy the brotherly love of the Yoruba union and stated that the group is a very strong one and that they are very intelligent people. The new Minister and Head of Chancery in the Nigerian High Commission Oluyele Onafalujo expressed happiness that everybody was present and that being new, he wants to see Nigerians live in peace among their hosts, free from rancor and intimidation. He also called for peace with their host Sierra Leoneans and prayed that whatever they do, or put their hands on will prosper. He said that he has been informed that the Yoruba is a formidable group and so peace is needed. He therefore congratulated the President of the group and the outgoing president while urging that the formula should be replicated in other groups. The Yoruba President Omonijo in response said that he was happy about the gathering and peace which had returned to his group and noted that they did not even know what why they were fighting themselves and thanked God that they have found peace. He also praised the national Union President Abel Onomake and said as far as they were concerned they do not want him to go yet as there is a lot to be done. The leaders of the other groups,Ibo, Area and Niger-Delta all spoke in the same vein.
