Osman Boie Kamara, popularly referred to as Usu Boie, failed aspirant for the flag bearer bid in last year’s National Delegates’ Conference was shamed and booed at by his mandingo kinsmen in Kono after he openly declared that he neither SLPP nor APC member.
Boie was in Koidu City, Kono District on the invitation of the Mandingo Union in the district to discuss the embittered chieftaincy issue in Biriwa Chiefdom and other burning issues affecting the SLPP membership in the district.
According to Madam Hawa Sesay a member of the Mandingo Union, they were shocked to hear from him that he is no longer a member of the SLPP.
“This came to us as a complete surprise; and you know what, most of the members of the union are members or supporters of the SLPP and you can imagine the feeling of the people at that time of his utterance,” Madam Sesay said.
She said Mr. Boie Kamara made the statement at a time when he was asked to give his views and opinion about the paramount chieftaincy in Biriwa, which most of the Mandingo people believe was illegally taken from them, by the ruling APC government for which they collectively need to fight against.
Madam Sesay said the statement made by Mr. Kamara clearly show the kind of person he is, and that the union needed not to rely on him.
“His statement came as a complete blow to our collective aspiration; a disappointment in our trust in him as someone all of us could rely on as vanguard in this fight to restore our dignity as a people,” Madam Sesay maintained.
The SLPP Kono District Secretary General, Aiah P. Fomba in an interview with this reporter described Usu Boie’s statement as “unfortunate” pointing out that the SLPP branch in Kono views the comment “as a disgraceful and deceptive” noting that Usu Boie should have given due consideration to his statement before making it in public. He said that inasmuch as it will appear to be a dent on the image of the SLPP, “the statement in no uncertain terms portrays Usu Boie as an unreliable and selfish individual which is why he possibly may have lost the SLPP leadership contest because of his sheer insincerity,” Mr. Fomba stated.
