The President of the National Olympic Henry Moore has disclosed to Awoko yesterday at his Office that there is only one scholarship for NOC yearly sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity.
He made the statement to clear the air over an issue in one of the local radio sports programme, when certain caller made a point that they are selling scholarship to certain people according to President Moore that is not true and also misleading to destroy the NOC character.
The NOC President described the statement has very unfortunate because the caller was not au fait with NOC rules and regulations.
He stressed the point that they had to appeal to the NOC for such scholarship through their National Associations and in turn the associations nominate the individual, and later the individual write to the University for acceptance.
President Moore further stated after the acceptance, they will now refer the matter to the NOC that will later refer the matter to NOC to get the Olympic Solidarity to award the scholarship.
But the individual has to attend the University that is approved by the Olympic Solidarity.
He also revealed that several people have applied since last year and three of them was short listed and their names were sent to the Olympic Solidarity and it is now left with International Olympic Committee (IOC) to decide and they in turn will inform the International Federation asking if it is suitable for them to train the individuals and to see if the training is approved by the international federation.
He made it clear that out of the three candidates for this year’s scholarship; only one was approved by the sponsors IOC after getting response from the International Federation.
President Moore revealed that after they received the response from IOC they pleaded with them to have at least 2 candidates for the scholarship, but they refuse because in principle it is one person for international scholarship from any NOC yearly.
He also stated that the Olympic Solidarity have to consider the usefulness of the training to the National Olympic Committee and the country as a whole and also the ability of the candidate to make good use of the training before the final selection will be made. .President Moore cited an example where an individual can go to the internet and applied directly to the Olympic Solidarity with any information to the NOC.
In turn, the Olympic Solidarity will send such application to the NOC for clarification and if the NOC is not aware of it, they will not approve it because NOC will not have any financial obligation to make which they never budgeted for, so it will be very difficult for them to come on board and approved.
President Moore also revealed that there is two local course for any NOC yearly, but presently four sporting disciplines have applied and the Olympic Solidarity have approved Table Tennis which will commence their training next month.
He stated that any other disciplines that is approved by Olympic Solidarity will held their training before the end of the year.
He also mentioned that a lot of associations have benefited from the international and local courses organized by NOC and sponsored by Olympic Solidarity.
