The Minister of Information and Communication, Mr Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has stated that Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister, Zainab Bangura who was quoted by several Chinese media as declaring Sierra Leone’s support for China’s stance against Tibet has denied that she “did not say so”  The Information Minister said that the Foreign Minister who is presently out of the country told him that what was carried by the Chinese Media was an “over editorialization” that carried far more than what she said.
Mr Kargbo said however that the Foreign Minister who is in charge of government’s foreign policy said that the Government of Sierra Leone supports China’s “one China two policies program” nothing more nothing less. The Information Minister said that the relationship between the two countries will continue to flourish and they will continue to stand by the Chinese government. He stressed that the Government of Sierra Leone have no plans as a government to hold to a policy that will be against international instruments and stance. People’s Daily online one of the Chinese media was quoted as publishing under the headline “China garners broad international support over Tibet riots”  And the report stated…”Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Zainab Hawa Bangura said on Tuesday that her country sees clearly the intention of the Dalai Lama clique to instigate violence in Tibet to promote separatism of the region, and to disturb the Beijing Olympics.”
“Meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bangura said that her country support the Chinese government’s measures adopted in dealing with the violence, and added that she believes that the Beijing Olympics will be a great success.”
Mr Kargbo revealed that the Ambassador of China had been summoned by the Foreign Ministry to discuss the issue further.
China has been condemned vehemently by world leaders for their stance against Tibet.
