Saidu P. Kargbo, the Sierra Leonean boxer who was a last-minute replacement for a Swiss boxer in the Olympic Games, cleared his first hurdle of the games by qualifying on wild cat in the jam-packed “Bird’s Nest” in China.
Today he will face one of the greatest challenges of his boxing career when he squares off against Polish Champion Maszyk Lukasz in the 95th bout of the games. The fight will be the first bout of the Light Fly Weight (48 kg).
Kargbo, overwhelmingly considered an underdog in his bout, is determined to upset highly regarded opponent.
A victory over Lukasz, the 2007 world champion, would catapult Kargbo into the subsequent rounds with incredible momentum, not to mention give Sierra Leone tremendous added exposure.
