Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Proud Olympian Hafsatu Kamara is the newly appointed Athlete Commissioner at the National Olympic Committee (NOC). Kamara expressed her gratitude to the NOC for the opportunity and the support extended throughout her career as an athlete and as a representative of Sierra Leone.
“I am thankful to the NOC for not only giving me the opportunity to be part of them but also for their continuous support throughout my entire career. Sports have the power to unite us, and I am proud to represent Sierra Leone at the table with others. Being a candidate on the IOC committee allows us to share our ideas and showcase the progress we are making. I am excited about what the future holds for Sierra Leone and sports in the country,” said the proud Olympian.
Welcoming Hafsatu Kamara, President Prince Sualley acknowledged her significant contributions to Sierra Leonean sports over the past decade. He noted her exceptional performance as an athlete and her recent recognition as a candidate for the Athlete Commission at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“During the short period that she has been at the helm of our Athletes Commission, Hafsatu Kamara has been doing tremendous work. Her participation as a panellist in the IOC forum a few months ago made a lasting impression, showcasing her ability to express herself and her in-depth knowledge about the conditions of athletes not only in Sierra Leone but around the world. I am extremely proud of her. From day one, I had my eyes set on her for this kind of position. Even when she was an athlete, I observed her interactions with locally based athletes on the international stage. Her down-to-earth nature, humility, and excellent rapport with our locally based athletes made her the ideal candidate for this role,” President Prince Sualley stated. BT/24/12/2023
