On Wednesday 19th August 2020, Magistrate Kekura at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4 continued the bail granted to accused Thomas Sandy of No. 15 Main Motor Road, Congo Cross. Police accused Sandy of allegedly confronting an unidentified police officer Peter Kamara of Kingtom Police Barrack on 5th July 2020 along Regent Road in Lumley. Testifying, PC 1458 Kamara said Officer Kamara told him Sandy had caused the wound to his right eyebrow.
Thomas Sandy was charged with three counts including wounding with intent, wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the same Act. Prosecution witness Saio said he came across a tricycle parked in the middle of the street on his way from Regent Road with three passengers in the back seat, and sounded his horn from the blocked police vehicle, SLP-142.
The prosecuting officer is Sergeant 8811 Wilson attached at court No. 4.
Defence counsel, S.S. Kanyako pleaded for bail to be continued for his client. Responding, Magistrate Kekura cautioned the witness and asked him to be clear in his statement, saying he understood that the complainant sustained an injury to his forehead after being attacked by the accused. He said the accused also sustained a fractured right hand which has swollen, and continued bail for the accused until the investigation is concluded.
The matter has been filed for view and advice. Magistrate Kekura adjourned the matter to 24th August 2020 for further hearing.
