Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – In just one month since the release of his latest single, the multi-talented artist known as Obatheh, or Daniel Sesay, is making waves and achieving remarkable success with his track and music video, “E Dae Pain Dem.”
Within a mere ten days of unveiling the official music video for his latest hit, the comedian-turned-musician from Makeni, Obatheh, has already amassed an impressive 20,000 streams across various social media platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook.
Originally titled “Sonkerr,” Obatheh’s management opted for a change, relaunching it as “E Dae Pain Dem” without providing specific reasons for the alteration. Yet, this change in title has not diminished the enthusiasm of his fans, who continue to revel in and engage with the video.
In just 11 days following its premiere on Stuntman’s YouTube channel on September 4, his new music video secured over 4,300 streams on YouTube alone. Furthermore, it has garnered a total of 20,000 views across various social media platforms.
These streaming figures represent a career high for Obatheh, a remarkable feat given the challenges posed by low internet access in Sierra Leone’s provincial regions. Esteemed musicians acknowledge this achievement as a significant breakthrough in the artist’s career.
The comedian-turned-musician’s burgeoning internet popularity can be attributed to unwavering support from his predominantly female fan base in Sierra Leone, as well as global admirers, including bloggers, philanthropists, and acclaimed musicians such as Med Tee, Stuntman, General Depoh, Augustine JayTee, Alieu Melody, Black Snoop, and K-Man.
Obatheh’s growing prominence has led to multiple brand ambassadorial agreements, the most recent being with Moses Construction, Logistics, and General Services.
Obatheh’s rapid ascent reflects his increasing impact on the music industry, both locally and internationally, and underscores the influential role of social media and online platforms in promoting Sierra Leonean artists. ARW/16/9/2023
