Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC) has organized a four-day nutrition Awareness Campaign for over three hundred rural women drawn from communities in both Small Bo and Nongowa chiefdoms in the Kenema district.
In his statement the chairman of the programme who also doubles as the Senior Assistant officer in the land and water resources division in the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) in Kenema district, Abu Bakarr Sidique Kabba said, it is now time for women of Sierra Leone to realize the value of agriculture even when they cultivate the lands at the back yard of their houses for food security.
Abu Bakarr Sidique Kabba lauded the effort of BRAC for their timely intervention in supporting the food security program in the country.
Giving an overview of the organization and its area of intervention, the Agriculture Regional Co-coordinator of BRAC Crolan Azam disclosed to the people in the eastern region that their organization helps rural women to improve on food and nutrition by providing them with agricultural materials in terms of seedlings of vegetable crops, chickens and micro finance loan facilities to sustain their livelihood.
Crolam Azam said the theme for the campaign is “Stay healthy remain healthy” pointing out that an individual will only remain healthy by eating a lot of fruits and vegetable which will reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.
