National Union of Students (NUSS), the parent body for all constituent colleges in Sierra Leone, has commemorated its 12th anniversary at the National Stadium, Presidential lounge, where speeches and statements were delivered by various speakers.
Speaking on behalf of the Union, the President Felix Koroma said students need to reflect the great loss of their colleagues who were brutally murdered during their struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country. He said it is rather unfortunate that the purpose, for which these students died, was not really achieved. He lamented that the students are not benefiting from the democracy they fought so hard for because politicians now marginalize them whenever they fail to tow the line adding that it is the politicians who are now enjoying the fruits of their sacrifices.
He said many a time the National government had failed to accommodate and include students on many matters relating to national development.
He also came down hard on the general students’ body for unnecessarily creating division amongst themselves. Mr. Koroma said the idea of Blackman and Whiteman in students’ politics had sent a wrong signal to the outsiders and that there is no form of unity in students politics in general.
