Workers of the National Power Authority (NPA) Black Hall Road Substation yesterday demonstrated against their boss, the head of the Maintenance team for the Transmission and Distribution (T and D) section Alhaji Karim when he returned from leave.
The workers carried placards which read “Alhaji Karim must go,” “Karim is excess baggage to T D,” and “Mr Karim is a disgrace,” “fraudulent conversion of Tand D material by Karim.”
The Public Relations Officer Victor Wilson Clarke said the strike action was orchestrated by Augustine Smith a general worker attached to the Over Head Section at the T and D Section.
The demonstrators barricaded the entrance to the office preventing workers from entering the office for their normal duties.
Clarke said because Augustine Smith knew that Karim was to resume work from leave that is why he planned a strike action. “Augustine orchestrated the strike action because he preferred working with Alfred Tommy rather than Alhaji Karim” PRO Clarke said.
The PRO said the workers have since returned to work at the Substation and Augustine has been queried adding that he had no authority to dictate who should be his boss.
Speaking to Alfred Tommy who was heading maintenance when Alhaji Karim was on leave, he said “I am not aware of any demonstration in NPA Black Hall Road Substation.”
