A National Petroleum tanker loaded with petroleum product destined for Kono, somersaulted at Wailahun village spilling its entire contents on the highway.
Inhabitants at the village dashed to the scene with gallons and other containers, aided by bike riders to have some of the spilling products, now that its price had shut up in the market.
Explaining the events leading to the accident, the tanker driver, Umaru Bangura, told Awoko at the site of the accident that he observed that some mechanical fault had occurred underneath the vehicle which saw the tanker somersaulting and landing on its side.
He lauded the efforts of the Police Officers who rushed to the scene that denied the villagers the opportunity of having a field day with the leaking substance.
To avoid further spilling, volumes of containers were brought down from Kono and the contents poured into them and transported to the Tanker’s destination in Kono.
The driver of the vehicle with registration No AAQ 664 sustained minor head injuries.
