In line with expressed pronouncement made during the unveiling of its new corporate outlook on the 12th of January 2012 in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s emerging multinational NP has already started erecting ultra modern fuel retail outlets in and around Monrovia city in Liberia and has slated millions of dollars to fund its cross border investment push.
Visitation around the facilities of National Petroleum shows that vigorous work is ongoing for operations to soon begin reported the Liberian Observer.
The Country Manager of NP Liberia limited, Mohammed S. Kanu, said in Monrovia last week that “an initial capital of US$10 million has been invested in the Liberian branch of the business”.
The company it is reported “is erecting four facilities in Monrovia, one located at the intersection of S.D. Cooper Road and Robertsfield Highway, another along the main Paynesville road after the Police Academy Junction in Paynesville”. The company the report went on “has also erected one along Somalia Drive and inside the Barnesville area where no modern petroleum station has reached”.
NP’s country boss also revealed in Monrovia its Liberian inward push strategy and in an interview with the press disclosed that “the mission of the company is to have 6 stations in Monrovia and three in other counties by the end of 2012”. Kanu said that, besides Monrovia NP would be “installing facilities in Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, and Nimba Counties by 2013”.
NP will also be visible in Maryland County in the South-East and is in “negotiations with the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC)” to allow the installation of a terminal so that petro products can be transported into the county by sea and then to surrounding counties where road infrastructure to and from Monrovia remains a challenge.
“In fact, the product will be of low cost in that region than Monrovia and other places,” he noted.
During the unveiling ceremony in Freetown, the board Chair of NP Mike Carrol stated in his address that “where ever” the company operated, it “will be law abiding and will take corporate social responsibility seriously”.
In line with the above mentioned company policy, Liberia Country Manager “promises” as a priority “honest and satisfactory treatment of customers”. The company would “ensure that customers receive” what they pay for.”
Mr. Kanu disclosed that NP “expects to employ about 18 trustworthy, credible and honest Liberians” to manage each station.
