“All men are created equal but not all beers…,” stated the managing director of the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL), Dr John Mbonu, to journalists at the Lagooda Entertainment Complex about Wednesday’s Heineken- Nostalgia Night.
With a smile that gradually glowed his face, Dr Mbonu said, “there is hardly any place for chief executives, senior diplomats and senior government officials to go out and enjoy themselves, this is why Heineken has created an atmosphere where these people will meet, relax, reminisce, enjoy themselves and have fun.
“The reason why we chose Langooda is simple. During the rainy season… Langoonda Club is indoors, and it is well air conditioned; most of all it is one of the top clubs in the country… as we cater for quality crowd we also ensure that the venue, the brand and people are of the same class.”
Giving the nitty-gritty of the programme the SLBL company secretary, Kobie Walker, stated that “our targets are chief executives, senior managers and diplomats. Every Wednesday between 9pm and 1am the Heineken -Nostalgia Night creates an atmosphere in which these personalities would come, relax from the day’s hard labour, while we play songs of yester-years to motivate them to move forward. That is why we associate the night with a brand so powerful like Heineken.”
“The concept of Nostalgia Night is to reminisce; that is why if you observed what normally happens every Wednesday, it is not much of an energy burning thing; the atmosphere is relaxing for people to recollect,” Mr Walker explained.
He continued: “Married couples hold hands as they remember their youthful days. This is what the nostalgia night is all about.”
This was why, Mr Walker said, “we are catering for these types of people, for them to take time off their busy schedules, so that they can refresh themselves for the following day’s tasks.
Mr Walker explained that, “Heineken is the world’s number one premium brand with class and style. It is a brand that delivers refreshment and smoothness at its highest level; with regards to emotional benefit it gives you a feeling of belonging up there, because Heineken is premium, right at the top of all beers.”
One of Heineken’s most successful wholesale distributors, Clifford Thomas of the Sugar Loaf Enterprises, explained that Heineken was the best beer for now. He disclosed that each week he sold about 600 to 1,000 cartoons of that beer.
Lagoonda’s Manageress, who preferred to be called Shirley, explained that “Lagoonda hardly do other programmes besides its night club but we accepted to host the nostalgia night because the idea is great and the rationale behind it is brilliant.”
