Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Prince Vandy Sualley, the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), has announced that his top priority is to ensure that more sporting disciplines secure qualifications for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
President Sualley has urged sporting associations across the board to make a concerted effort to secure these qualifications. He has also encouraged athletes to remain focused, emphasizing that they are the key concern for the NOC. He advised them to train rigorously, maintain their concentration, and work towards Olympic qualification, taking into account the trained and qualified technical support available to them.
Sualley shared his vision for the NOC, emphasizing the significance of the year preceding the Olympic Games, as it is pivotal for securing qualifications. He emphasized that the Olympic Games are primarily about qualification, and lacking qualification hinders participation. He expressed his scepticism about wildcards or tripartite invitations and reiterated the importance of qualifications. The larger the contingent, the more opportunities for success.
Sualley also revealed that Adidas is prepared to provide substantial equipment across various sporting disciplines. They are in discussions with Sierra Leonean London-based kit designer Foday Labrum, who is eager to partner with the NOC. These opportunities will largely depend on the success of qualification efforts. BT/23/10/2023
