The president of the National Olympics Committee (NOC) of Sierra Leone, Henry Moore, disclosed to Awoko Sports over the weekend that his life was threatened.
He said he received a call from an unknown person, with telephone number 033 878024, saying that he was calling from Kabala and that if he could not settle the athletics association impasse he would die like the former director of sports M A Kamara. After receiving the call, Henry Moore redialed the number on several occasions but the number was unreachable.
Meanwhile, Moore disclosed that on Friday morning two young athletes visited him at his Howe Street NOC office and told him that they were coming from the director of sports Saidu Mansaray with whom they discussed the present impasse in the athletics association.
He said he told the two athletes that it was the NOC’s fault for failing to recognize the Eric Cole executive that was elected by Congress, the highest body responsible for electing any sporting discipline.
He revealed that after the two athletes had explained to him he wasted no time and called the director of sports in the athletes’ presence to conform want they discussed with the director of sports but that the latter’s mobile phone was switched off. The NOC’s president said he told the athletes that the elected executive of any sporting discipline had to be recognized by the minister of Sports and the Sports Council. “That’s the procedure and we cannot bypass the ministry which is responsible for sports,” he noted.
