The President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Henry Moore has clear air as to why Sierra Leone did not take participate in the just concluded Paralympics games in China.
He said they were surprise that they were not included into their programme, as all forms were processed well ahead of time.
He said he was informed that Sierra Leone did not participate in the elimination series in Ivory Coast and as such they were not included in the list as one of the country that was supposed to participate in the games.
President Moore said further that he informed them that they had submitted everything including the accreditation forms.
“If that should have been the problem they should have informed us earlier on, and that was why we were surprised” he said. The President stressed that the organizers later informed them that they would not foot the bills for six (6) athletes, but that they would only sponsor the President and Secretary- General.
According to Moore, it was ridiculous for the two administrators to attend the games with no athletes to accompany them.
He went further that if they had agreed to pay for an athlete and one administrator, then it would have made sense.
He mentioned that the organizers of the Paralympics games should be responsible for the tickets just as in the ordinary Olympic Games and as such we were waiting for their approval, only for them to inform us that Sierra Leone has not been included in the list.
