The National Olympic Committee has set up three committees to be able to examine and evaluate the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone
This was after a three day visit to the country by Miss Pamela Vipond (Director, Olympic Solidarity).
According to her primary assessment of the organization (NOC) it should be restructured and also decentralized so that others can participate through the formation of sporting commissions.
On this advice the NOC executive wasted no time but to form those commissions on March 18th.
The commissions are The Athletes Commission, the Financial Commission and the Medical Commission.
According to the President of the NOC Henry Moore who spoke to Awoko Sports before departing for China all commissions are required to hold one meeting every year and reports from this meeting must be presented by the chairman of NOC Sierra Leone.
He mentioned that representatives in any of the commissions can take part in other commissions when invited and he and his executive shall recommend and vote for members of the commissions.
President Moore went further to state that all Federation and Members of the NOC Sierra Leone who are specialist and expert in any of the commission’s field are eligible in that commission.
He noted that such experts or specialists can serve as Chairman appointed by him. The duration of such appointment shall not exceed 4/5 years or the duration of the commission’s life span.
The number in these commissions should be between 5-7 persons including the chairman
The purpose of the Athletes commission is to work with the NOC Sierra Leone in helping them meet the need of the Sierra Leonean athletes and the NOC president can appoint two members to the athlete’s commission.
This commission is a direct link between the NOC Sierra Leone and Sierra Leonean Athletes.
All Active athletes will have two positions reserved for them-they are one male and one female
This commission should hold one meeting every year, also one joint meeting must be scheduled between the NOC Sierra Leone Executive board and athletes commission to which issues and recommendations can be addressed.
The membership of this commission will be athletes who have participated in the Olympic Games except the two active athletes (one male and one female) and all members of the commission will serve a term of five years.
The next Commission – Finance – is to be established in Sierra Leone by the NOC Sierra Leone in order to help the effective management of the NOC Sierra Leone financial resources.
This commission will ensure that the NOC Sierra Leone accounting records are maintained in accordance with International Accounting Standard and ensure that NOC Sierra Leone has a transparent budget and financial procedures.
This commission shall ensure that an independent external accounting firm produce an annual audited statement on NOC Sierra Leone and make such reports available to members.
The final commission is the Medical commission this commission was established March 2008.The primary purpose of this commission is to protect the health of athletes, respect for both Medical and Sports ethics and equality for all competing athletes.
President Moore said that all recommendations for these commissions have be forwarded to Pamela Vipond for confirmation before it will be implemented.
