The Adonkia Police station at the Peninsular Road within the Angola Community has been going without water for domestic use over 10 months now, making it very difficult for the smooth running of the police station.
According to ASP Conteh in charge of Administration at the Adonkia Police station he said that the Police station was constructed early last year but provision for the supply of water was not put in place and officers attached to the Police Station are seriously constrained to access pure water.
ASP Conteh expressed disappointment and embarrassment over the lack of water at the Police station, as officers had to walk for long distances to fetch water alone for domestic use at the police station which causes a low moral on officers on duty.
He maintained that the lack of water at the police station is also causing extra financial burden on the officers “we are not getting adequate support from Police headquarters for the smooth running of the station” he lamented.
ASP Conteh noted that, several efforts had been made to inform higher authorities about their constraints but “they will promise to supply us with water every day but the water haven’t yet reached the Police Station since last year.”
ASP Conteh expressed thanks and appreciation to Regimanuel Gray the estate developer in Sierra Leone for their support to the police station, as we rely heavily on the company to supply us with water and occasionally provides fuel for the police vehicle to intensify police patrol within the peninsular area.
On the question of crime related cases at the Police station, the ASP intimated that the peninsular area is peaceful and calm, but however cited an increase in land disputes, that result to assault between land owners and land grabbers.
He further spoke about a recent Police raid on cartels within the Peninsular environs where harmful dugs such as Marijuana is grown locally and sold to the public clandestinely, but suspects were arrested and sent to Police headquarters for further investigations.
ASP Conteh further disclosed that the Police recently found a corpse at the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology and the body was transferred to the Connaught Hospital for postmortem examination as investigations in to the mysterious death is carried out.
Concluding ASP Conteh called on the Police boss Brima Acha Kamara to see reason and work out the necessary modalities for the supply of water to the Police Station and other needed logistics to enable the Police officers perform their duty. By Saidu Bah
