Director of the Office of National Security (ONS) Brig. Kawuta Dumbuya yesterday appealed to all Sierra Leoneans to remain calm as there is no cause for alarm.
The Security Chief also made reference to the Press Release issued by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairperson Dr. Christiana Thorpe who had asked all those with evidence of grievances and complaints about election malpractices should report such discrepancies to the Sierra Leone Police.
The National Security Co-ordinator, Office of National Security (ONS) Brigadier Mustapha Kawuta Dumbuya, in a release issued yesterday, called on all political parties and their supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as they await the official pronouncement of the results by NEC.
According to Brigadier Dumbuya, the security sector admonishes all stakeholders, especially all political parties and their supporters to desist from activities and pronouncements that may likely misinform or incite the public, thereby undermining or demolishing the hard won peace and reversing the democratic laurels that the country has so far achieved as a nation, adding that the security sector also encourages stakeholders involved in the processing of the elections results to judiciously perform their constitutional duties.
He maintained that in the event where stakeholders have issues to contend with, in respect of the conduct and or outcome of the elections, they, the security sector advises all such stakeholders to respect the due process and rule of law in seeking redress.
“The public is assured of the security sector’s neutrality and continued commitment to providing the enabling environment for a peaceful conclusion of the 2012 electioneering processes. On the same note, the security sector is determined to appropriately deal with any individual or groups involved in breaching the peace and or breaking the law in order to reverse the accolades that we have achieved as part of our post-conflict peace and democratization consolidation processes” he stressed. The ONS boss also explained that they applaud the unflinching efforts and cooperation of the various stakeholders, including all the political parties, NEC, the Political Parties Registration Commission(PPRC), the Media, Local and International Observers and security personnel during the conduct of the very first elections solely organized by Sierra Leoneans after the war.
In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police Francis Munu called on the public to be patient and calm while awaiting the announcement of the General Election results by NEC.
He said that people should not indulge themselves in peddling rumours which will threaten the security of the state but should comport themselves and wait for the announcement of the results from NEC.
