A letter, presently in the hands of the Students Union President of the Njala University Bo Campus, John P Stevens, has raised many questions, for which students are demanding answers.
The letter which was written and signed by the Education Minister, Dr Minkailu Bah states that students who were awarded the Sierra Leone Government Grant-in-Aid in the 2007/2008 academic year have the following outside the grant package: accommodation allowance, registration, field trips, registration ID and capitation. This implies that those who got the grant before that year should have been allotted their allowances for accommodation amongst other things.
However, the students portend that this is not what has been happening. They said that students who have been previously awarded have not been receiving some of the above.
“We have been paying half of the fees though we are on SLG” a Final Year Economics student disclosed.
The University they said had never disclosed this; and that they have been paying these extra charges for the past two years. “That means this University has been fooling and cheating us for the past two years,” states a final year Linguistics student who preferred anonymity.
The SU President explained to Awoko that he is waiting for the yet-to-be-named Registrar of the Bo Campus, before making a follow-up on the issue.
