The Student Union Government of Njala University has threatened a serious strike action.
The strike notice came about immediately after the Academic Staff Association of the same University released a strike notice last week; that if decisions are not taken on the courses suspended by the Tertiary Education Committee (TEC) they would stage a strike action .The students too have given 10 (ten) days ultimatum of an unimaginable action should the action of the TEC remains the same.
Njala University undertook courses like B.Sc Hons in Accounting, Banking and Finance and M.A in Business Administration and Peace and Development Studies; but they were suspended by the TEC pending decisions on whether the College could be allowed to pursue these courses or not.
The Njala Students Union referred to this action as undervaluing the College and therefore warned that “Students of this University would not at any point in time tolerate notions of suspension. We therefore give the TEC or whosoever is responsible for such actions to withdraw the proposed suspension within 10 (ten) working days or expect a very serious action” They have already written a letter to the Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University informing him that both campuses in Bo and Freetown view his stance on the matter as “being in acquiescence and support to TEC’s plan”. They warned that as a union which thrives towards subsisting the values contained in the university’s goal of human resource development and “if the so-called suspension of courses is not withdrawn within 10 (ten) working days, a serious strike action would be undertaken”
