The Nigeria national Union of Sierra Leone headed by Architect abel Onomake is embarking on a nationwide tour of Nigerian Communities in the Provinces commencing 21st February 2009.
The tour is being undertaken by the national Executive Council which is a caretaker committee of the Nigerian Community in Sierra Leone. According to the Secretary-General of the Union, Mr. Francis Onyekwue, the tour is to mobilize Nigerians from all walks of life in Sierra Leone to be more alive to their corporate and private responsibilities to their host communities.
Key on the list of discussions will be renewal of their residence permits in consonance with the immigration regulations of Sierra Leone as well as, the relevant ECOWAS Protocols, payment of mandatory taxes and a clarion call on Nigerians to abide with the laws of Sierra Leone. The interactive meetings will also enable the national Executive Council to attend to the various yearnings of their compatriots in the provinces.
The Nigerian National Union of Sierra Leone which is the umbrella organization of all Nigerian organized unions in this country comprise of six constituent ethnic/state bodies.
The National Union also oversees and coordinates the activities of its regional associations in Kono, Makeni, Bo and Kenema respectively.
The visit will also take the team to Nigerian volunteers on bilateral assignments in Sierra Leone. It will be recalled that there are Nigerian academics, medical Doctors, Nurses and other professionals who are biennially posted to Sierra Leone to assist the country in various spheres of capacity building.
