The President of the Nigeria Community in Sierra Leone Architect Abel Onomake and key members of his executive has recently embarked on an official tour of Nigerian Communities in the Eastern and Southern Provinces of Sierra Leone. The President accompanied by the Secretary General of the Nigerian National Union (NNU) Mr. Francis Onyekwue were accorded a grand reception at the St. Francis Church grounds Bo, on Saturday 16th of May 2009. Led by the Chairman of the NNU in Bo, Alhaji Namadi, a large number of Nigerians in the Southern Province had defied the searing heat of last Saturday afternoon to give a rousing welcome to the visiting National Council Executives from Freetown. The President told them that he had come with his team to keep them abreast with the activities of the national body as well as to dilate on issues pertaining welfare of Nigerian in the Southern Province. The protracted constitutional crisis at the Southern Province branch was laid to rest with the President’s dissolution of the decade long executive and an appointment of a Caretaker Transitional body to conduct proper elections in three months time. In Kenema, a cross section of Nigerians in the Eastern Province thronged to the Eastern Polytechnic Canteen to welcome their visiting executives. Issues discussed included the growing numbers of aged and indigent Nigerians wanting to be relocated to Nigeria and the need for a more cohesive union.
