The first ever higher learning institution to benefit the people of Koidu and its environment, is presently under
construction at Dorma just outside the city of Koidu. The building which is to house over 150 students, is to be completed
before the commencement of the new academic year.
Speaking to Awoko, the project supervisor Alie Nowah said the project is a World bank programme, which started two months ago
and is expected to be completed before the official re-opening of all tertiary institution.
Mr. Nowah who is also the representative of Action for Development, being an implementing partner working closely with Sababu
education says they had reached a time frame, regarding the completion of the work.
The supervisor said all materials concerning the construction of the structure have been forth coming and it has helped speed
up the work. He however expressed total dismay over the attitude of the authorities, of which he said was completely
frustrating. Mr. Nowah complained that since, the inception of the work, none of the authorities had ever shown interest. In
order to draw the attention of the general public, and the authorities in particular, Nowah said he was going to use the
electronic media so that they would understand the essence of the project.
John Bangura the contractor said the project was the simplest of all the work the company has ever under taken. He however
showered praises on Sababu education and Action for Development for their usual co-operation. Bangura also came down hard on
the authorities condemning their lackadaisical attitude, towards the project. He said the road leading to the site was so bad
and full of potholes not until he and his boys volunteered to repair it.
However, the Dorma technical institute launched by Vice president Sam-Sumana last year, and which was to be constructed on
the same site, has died a natural death. The construction which was under taken by the Lebanese committee and sponsored by
Arab Development bank has failed, with the carcass of the structure left in a state of ruin and completely abandoned.
The city councilor for Dorma refuted allegations made by both the contractor and the project supervisor. He said plans are
underway, as to how the falling structure, could be resuscitated.
