Hundreds of Muslims in and around Kenema city on Sunday April 5th 2009 converged to lay a foundation stone of a new mosque named Al-Masjid Fatulu Ismeal Islamiyah at Abdul K.K drive at Nyandeyama newsite in Kenema.
Addressing the Muslim Jamaat at the site the chairman of the program Sheik Isiaka Bangura expressed delight over the progress Islam is making in the eastern region. Sheik Bangura called on all Muslims especially the Jamaat members to contribute in whatever way they could to finish the construction of the mosque.
In his statement, the District Chief Imam who is also the representative of the Africa Muslim Agency (AMA) commended Islamiyah Jamat for their hard work to promote the Islamic region in this part of the country. Alhaji Abdul Karim Morie Junisa thanked and praised Alhaji chief Benson Suwu for giving them the land space for the construction of the orphanage at the Gbo-Lambayama section in the Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district. He appealed to all Muslims not to relent in their services to God almighty as they will be rewarded accordingly by God.
Speaking on behalf of the United Councils of Imams Kenema district Alhaji Khan from the Hangha road mosque presented the sum of three hundred and seventy seven thousand Leones (Le377) as part of their contribution for the construction of the mosque. He appealed to other Muslims Jamaat and other peace loving Sierra Leoneans to put resources together to complete the mosque. The turning of the sod for the construction of the new mosque climaxed the ceremony.
