The newly appointed Minister of lands Turad Senesie has imposed a moratorium on the “allocation/sale of all State Lands for private use in the Western Area with immediate effect.”
This was contained in a press release issued Monday 8th February, and goes on to state that “During this period, Government will only allocate or sell State Land for investment purposes or to diplomatic missions.”
The release further stated that the Minister will set up a “Complaints Committee of eminent persons to receive and investigate complaints from persons who feel disadvantaged in land allocation between April 2018 and January 2021 and report the findings to government for appropriate action.”
The release however emphasized that “all decisions and actions taken by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning during the period April 2018 to January 2021 remain valid and unchanged until Government decides otherwise.”
The Ministry promised to make public the terms of reference of the said committee soon.
