New Era for Football Refereeing in Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone, Freetown: A new era in football refereeing in Sierra Leone was initiated over the weekend after a total of twenty-four (24) delegates from the five regions of the country converged in the North-eastern city of Makeni for the maiden Annual General Meeting of the Sierra Leone National Football Referees Organization and elected new Executive officials to serve until 2025, since 1992.
Observers and key stakeholders in sports monitored the day’s elective congress where the 24-delegate duly elected Alhaji Sanusi Rashid unopposed as the new President of the newly transformed Sierra Leone National Football Referees Organization (SLNFRO) formerly known as the Sierra Leone National Football Referees Association (SLNFRA) along with several others nominated, endorsed and voted for to serve in distinct positions in the National Executive Council.
The SLNFRA newly elected Alhaji Sanusi Rashid says he’s excited to attain the Organization’s top seat by unanimous verdict taken by the membership of the National Football Referees Organization on a very historic day in the history of Referring in Sierra Leone. “We’ve all been yearning to get a new leadership, thank you colleagues for making a very rich history on this long awaited day by electing me as your new President. Many thanks to my predecessor Alhaji M.A Sesay and to our departed colleagues for the many years of their services towards refereeing, he acknowledged.
Sanusi assured that he’s looking forward to reuniting the Referees family in Sierra Leone by bringing onboard all those members that have taken the back seat due to previous disagreements. “I’m very committed to work for the good, together with other elected National and regional officials.”
The congress also approved the division of the Northern Regions, and for the first time the North-West region was adopted as an independent region and has been duly added to the traditional four regions of the organization.
Former Sierra Leone Football Association General Secretary Abdul Rahman Swaray who is the current Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in Sierra Leone uniquely presided over the election for the presidency as well as various regional and national positions of the Sierra Leone National Football Referees Organization.
Swaray and others were conferred Honorary Membership of the Sierra Leone National Football Association while the former Football Referees Association Boss Alhaji A.M Sesay was rewarded the title of Grand Patron.
North-East Region Executive Committee Member at the Sierra Leone Football Association Mohamed Sorie Jalloh, the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Dr. Patrick Conteh and the Bombali District Football Association Chairman Sheik Suleiman Sillah were the first to congratulate the elected officials, wished them well for hosting a very peacefully, plausible and very transparent maiden delegate conference for their membership since 1992.
They further assured the newly elected officials and their entire membership of their unflinching support and collaboration with the Sierra Leone National Football Referees Organization for the good of the game.
