In a bid to expedite the Biometric Voter Registration process across the country the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has replaced most of the faulty machines at registration centers with new ones to improve the system.
At the St. John school Registration Center Awoko observed that the process was going smoothly and potential voters in queue eagerly awaiting their turn, some say they have spent hours at the center.
The Registration officer at the St. John School Morlu Kanneh said the biometric voter registration has improved significantly due to the replacement of the previous biometric machines particularly the generator which in the past weeks was a setback.
He said the process is slow because the computer machine finds it difficult to detect the face and eye of the aged, coupled with the lighting exposure to capture the picture on the machine.
Morlu went on to explain that, since the commencement of the 2nd phase of the biometric voter registration the process has improved and the number of registered voters has also increased.
He said according to NEC the daily registration of voters is at least 80 but they have registered above target considering the enthusiasm of voters to register for the election.
Party agents for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress (APC) Party were present at the registration center and personnel of the Sierra Leone Police Operational Support Division were also present to maintain security at the center.
Some of the potential voters at the queue for the registration process expressed their willingness to register despite the difficulties.
