The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has issued a line of protocols relating to the investigation and resolution of complaints for the purpose of the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The NEC secretariat notes that in accordance with section 33 of the constitution of Sierra
Leone and section116 of the Electoral Laws Act 2002, they are mindful that political parties will validly present complaints to the commission and the necessity to ensure the integrity of the results through the investigation of all complaints prior to the final announcement of certified results issues that –all political parties and or interested parties desirous of submitting complaints to the NEC are requested to do so not later than 5pm on August 21.
The NEC secretariat so points out that complaint presented after the August 21 will not be addressed.
NEC reminds interested parties that the submission of complaints or not, as the case maybe, will in no way affect any parties’ ability to pursue matters through the courts.
