The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for ward 373 Foulah town and Mountain cut, Sheriff Barrie over the weekend called on his supporters to be peaceful as the election drew nearer.
The NDA candidate held a meeting with his supporters at Elk street where he also appraised them of his manifesto, election comportment during and after voting and also about community participation for development. He explained to them about the facilities lacking within the ward and how he intended to improve on them to make the Foulah town and Mountain cut communities worth living.
Mr Barrie told them to vote consciously and reminded them that what has led to the lack of development in the communities was because people voted for the wrong people. “I do not want Foulah town and mountain cut communities to continue suffering from that”
The NDA candidate further told them that the communities lacked health centers, drainage systems, employment, sanitation, schools and recreational facilities. “These were the things that propelled me to contest and these were the issues that will be the pinnacle of my administration to make sure that development at the lower level is undertaken and implemented” he told them.
Mr Barrie further said “Sierra Leone should move from that stage where partyism, favoritism and tribalism are be used in our political system. You all know how these communities were since the last local council elections in 2004, we have not seen developments nor any semblance of it. Our councilors have not proven and have not let us feel we have a councilor and you should know that your decision will affect peoples’ lives on a daily basis. That is because we voted on sentiments and the wrong persons.”
Continuing, Mr Barrie said the essence of the local council election was to elect somebody who will be responsible for the economic, social and infrastructural development of their communities.
He however told them he did not join the APC and SLPP parties because he thought they have failed the country and he believed the NDA party meant good for people. Mr Barrie is a final year B.A student of Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone, reading politics, history and philosophy.
