Sheriff Barrie, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for ward 373 Fullah Town and the Mountain Cut area contesting for the forthcoming local government elections, has said he was the fittest candidate in that ward.
Speaking to Awoko in an interview Mr Barrie explained that he contested under the NDA ticket because he thought the two dominant political parties, SLPP and APC had failed ward 373.
He said the APC councilor representing that area had not measured up to the expectations of the community.
Mr Barrie further explained that because the community lacked basic services that was what prompted him to contest to provide facilities for the ward.
He said the ward lacked a community health centre, sewage control, sanitation, the unkempt cemetery at Circular Road which has become a dustbin and the inaccessible access roads. “These are going to be my priorities together with community mobilization, I will make my ward if elected as the best of all wards in the country”, he said.
His other priorities, Mr Barrie went on, were to improve on the schools, create youths’ awareness and lobby for improvements within the ward.
Mr Sheriff Barrie has been involved in self-help projects in the ward by organizing a study group and assisting students in their studies.
He is a final year student of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone reading history and sociology. He is the outgoing Sierra Leone Iranian Student Cultural Society FBC.
