Freetown, SIERRA LEONE -In a stunning display of strength and skill, Osman Koroma, also known as Kosombo, emerged victorious at the two-day Dworzack Strongest Man and Eastern Strongest Man competition, which concluded on Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at the Dworzack Community Centre.
Koroma, the reigning National Strongman Champion, showcased his exceptional abilities by successfully carrying 100kg sandbags, lifting weights ranging from 112kg to 145kg, and conquering various other challenges. His triumph reaffirms his status as a dominant force in the world of strength athletics.
Securing the second position was Ansu Bakarr Kamara, with Ibrahim Kamara claiming the third spot. Koroma expressed that while winning the competition held significant personal meaning, his primary focus now shifts to international representation for Sierra Leone in Strongman, Tug of War, and Mass Wrestling.
The event not only featured the Strongest Man competition but also included trials for Mass Wrestling and Tug of War categories. These trials served as a selection process for male and female athletes across different age groups, aiming to compete in the Arnold Classic 2024 Championships in the USA in February.
Additionally, the competition served as a crucial trial for the National Tug of War teams, both in the U-19 560kg junior male category and the senior 680kg men’s team. These teams are set to participate in the World Indoor Tug of War Championships scheduled for February 2024 in Sweden.
Sonny Johnson, the Technical Director overseeing the three sports, expressed satisfaction that the competition proceeded as planned. He emphasized the significance of identifying and evaluating athletes who will represent the country in international competitions. Johnson outlined his plan to work intensively with the selected athletes for the next month, ensuring they are in optimal condition for the upcoming challenges in the USA and Sweden in February.
