The President for the National Sports Achievers Association (NaSAA), Alhaji K Tarawally has disclosed to sports journalists at the National Stadium that NaSAA was going to hold their first National Sports Awards in Sierra Leone on January 3, 2009 at the Old Skool Night club.
He stated that the reason for organizing such an award was to recognize the contributions of indigenous sports stars including those who have made significant contributions to the development of sports in Sierra Leone.
He mentioned that Sierra Leone has a lot of young talents and that it was apt to honour those who have already achieved something or contributed in one way or the other.
That award, he went on was also going to serve as a motivation for those young talents.
The NaSAA president noted that the country has lost talents because some of their efforts were hardly recognized, either financially of morally.
This has prompted many sportsmen and women to seek greener pastures in other countries whenever they attend international competitions.
In view of this, the National Sports Achievers Association (NaSAA) and ABC Television have decided to collaborate to stage this first award in Sierra Leone, which will attract participation from the other regions in the country.
This will also serve as a reward and honour for athletes, footballers, clubs and national teams for their efforts in keeping the passion for sports in the hearts of millions of Sierra Leoneans.
All the 19 sporting disciplines in the country would be recognized.
