The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has launched the construction of 22 boreholes and 18 hand-dug wells in Panguma town, lower Bambara chiefdom, Kenema district under the Sierra Leone Community Driven Development (SLCDD) project. NaCSA’s senior director of programs, who doubled as chairman of the ceremony, said the project was also launched in Port Loko town, Magburaka town and Moyamba town, with more communities standing to benefit from it.
He said although the government is still fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, they thought it fit to reach out to the people on the implementation of the said projects that were withheld due to the pandemic. He revealed that the president disbursed Le3.3 billion to NaCSA for the project in lower Bambara because pure drinking water has remained a challenge for the chiefdom.
He maintained that the project which started in 2005 during late President Kabba’s regime was blocked until now, that the present commissioner reactivated its implementation from 8% to 60% under the New Direction government. Representing the paramount chief, the chiefdom speaker, Lansana Gando, thanked government for the project he described as timely for the chiefdom.
He assured NaCSA of the community’s support for the full implementation of the projects. NaCSA commissioner Abu Bockarie Kokofele, in his keynote address, commended President Bio for strictly adhering to his election manifesto on free quality education, free healthcare including for the disabled, agriculture, provision of electricity, and the fight against corruption among others.
He called on the community to take complete ownership of the project tailored for them.
