The operation lead coordinator of NaCOVERC, Rtd. Brig. David Taluva, has called on members of DiCOVERC, the security sector and other stakeholders in the district to ensure strict adherence to the coronavirus regulations by all. He made this call while addressing stakeholders at the environmental health office, Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema.
He said the purpose of his engagement was to address people’s complacency with the COVID-19 measures. He said the use of face masks in public places, maintain social distancing, and continuous hand washing are some of the key measures set aside by the government through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on COVID-19 prevention.
He said owners of entertainment centres and other places of business failing to adhere to said regulations would either pay a fine of Le500,000 or be charged to court. He said individuals not using face masks in public places would be fined Le100,000 or charged to court effective Monday 21st September 2020, adding that defaulting religious houses would be closed until further notice.
Umaru Vandi Kondorvoh, the DiCOVERC coordinator, Kenema thanked Taluva for giving them additional information on the new COVID-19 regulations and assured all that they would continue doing everything possible for people to comply with the regulations.
