N’jala University, Freetown campus, students’ union has got the youngest president in its history.
Abu Baker Maada Sidiq Massaquoi, 22, a final Honours I energy studies and physics student defeated David Mani Conteh, a final Honours I environmental physics in the first election since N’jala became a university.
Even though the election witnessed minor skirmishes, it was being described by political student commentators as the first most peaceful election. Maada polled 573 votes whilst David scored 404.
Being the first president under the new university at Njala main campus, it is likely that Maada Massaquoi will also be the first president that will take N’jala back to its original campus at N’jala Morkunde after its long displacement and destruction caused by the war.
