A three-story apartment building at Vine memorial secondary School at Congo Cross was mysteriously engulfed by fire yesterday. The building belongs to the Junior Secondary School which is comprised of the Principal’s Office, Bunsar’s office and the staff room.
The Principal of the junior school Rev Davies said she was the first to open her office when she got a very strange smell which prompted the alarm.
She said that as a result some youths that were passing by saw the fire from the ceiling and they started shouting, “Fire! Fire!” and by then, some children were in class attending summer school and they all came out trying to put out the fire.
Some minutes later, she explained the fire force arrived, but it took them some time to put out the fire.
Books and other important documents belonging to the school were destroyed by the fire. The assistant chief fire force officer, Sylvester Taluva, said it took the fire force about four minutes to arrive at the scene after they were informed.
He also mentioned that the cause of the fire was not yet known but investigation is still going on to know the real cause of the fire.
