The Magistrate of Court No. 3 on Pademba Road in Freetown, Abdul Sherriff has on Friday 22nd November 2019, committed to the High Court of Sierra Leone the sexual penetration case of Manso Kargbo and a 16-year old girl from Brookfields. Kargbo was arrested on 17 October 2019 by Detective Sergeant, R. Conteh, for sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offence Act No. 12 of 2012. He was first arraigned in Court on 28 October 2019. The police alleged on Tuesday 17 September 2019, around Brookfields in Freetown, the accused sexually penetrated a 16-year old girl. The victim, accompanied by her mother, told the Family Support Unit (FSU) officers at the Adelaide Police Station, in Freetown, that she is a student and resides with her mother and her husband. She said that she knows the suspect as their neighbour who occasionally helps her mother with her chores. She said on 17 September 2019, when the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her, she had returned from dropping her younger brother at school and was getting ready to go for class. She said she called the accused to help her put the main switch off as he was sitting outside of their house. He came and do it and went away, she said.

The victim said she was still inside the room with a towel tied around her chest as she had just come from taking her bath. She said that she felt someone hold on to her two hands from the back and pushed her. She said she fell on the bed with her face buried between the pillows. Then, the accused turned her waist and forcefully raped her. She said that she was shouting but her grandmother could not hear her as she was sitting outside. The girl said after she saw her mother enter the room. The victim told her mother what happened and the mother checked the victim. The mother saw blood on the girl. The mother confronted the accused and then involved more family members who took the accused to the Police Station. The victim also provided a statement to the Police on 19 September 2019. The case was prosecuted by ASP Y.E. Koroma.
