Mustapha Jabbie of the St Edwards Secondary School has won the Marathon race in grand style with a time of one hour fifty six minutes and forty one seconds (1; 56; 41 sec) in Freetown.
In second position was Idrissa Kargbo with a time of 2hours 00; 01sec while Abubakarr Timbo of RSLAF clinched the third positions with a time of 2 hours, 04minutes and 42 seconds.
In the female categories it was a win for Mamie K Lahun with a best time of 2hours 15minutes and 40seconds. Adama Kamara was in second position with a time of 2hour 47minutes and 10seconds and in third position was Sallay H Koroma with a time of 2hours 48minutes and 55seconds.
Both winners in each category received one million Leone’s as their prize while the second and third positions in each category received five hundred thousand Leone’s and three hundred thousand Leone’s respectively.
Before the start of the race Stephen Bainous Kargbo of the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) who is the programme specialist for Poverty and Human Development briefed the athletes on the importance of the event.
He also explained the purposes of the Marathon race to Journalists which he said is awareness raising as people in the country do not really know much about the MDG.
The competition is organized by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports and their development partners in accordance with the World Literacy Day Celebrations and popularization of the MDG’S?
